Internship @ Gray Area

Communications/Marketing/Design Intern for art & tech space

During my internship at Gray Area (under the Stanford in Arts Administration fellowship), a cultural center in San Francisco that supports artists and creative technologists working at the intersection of art and technology, I had the opportunity to contribute to the organization's mission by helping with marketing, communications, and production.

What is like to work in the art community not as an artist?

Process + Outcome

Marketing

I launched social media and marketing campaigns for 8 events from festivals to artist showcases using Airtable.

Communications

I put out newsletters to ~33,000 subscribers in the unique art and tech community through Mailchimp.

Social Media

I drafted Linkedin + Twitter + Instagram posts, artist intros, event listings on the communications team

Miscellaneous

I helped with productions and updated the website, and designed some posters for events.

Reflections & Takeaways

Gray Area is an incredibly inspiring space for artists, and the creativity of the community really inspired me to do more creative work. Although I loved engaging with artists, the art, and the community, I realized that I enjoy being an artist and having a community but not necessarily working in the art industry, not as an artist. Nonetheless, this was a wonderful experience—it helped me sharpen my communication skills, expanded my vision of creative technologies, learn organizational tools, and introduced me to some incredible people!
